When Gervonta “Tank” Davis fights Isaac Cruz on Sunday night, one of boxing’s brightest prospects returns to the ring. The lightweight fight from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Davis has finished 24 of his 25 career opponents, including a TKO victory over Mario Barrios in June after stepping up to junior welterweight and winning the WBA’s secondary title at the weight.
He’s now back to lightweight, seeking for a major win and a crack at the world title at 135 pounds.
Cruz is a multi-faceted fighter who will fight anyone, including Davis. Cruz established himself as a contender for high-profile fights following successful campaigns in 2020 and 2021, in which he recorded four of his career’s four greatest victories. Cruz defeated Francisco Vargas in his most recent fight to go up to the top of the IBF lightweight rankings.
