Andy Ruiz Jr. marked the third anniversary of his shocking victory against Anthony Joshua in 2019 to capture the heavyweight gold medal this year. Ruiz is back in action on September 4 as he gets ready to compete once more.

“I’ve been working out very hard because we want to move back up the heavyweight division ladder. We chose a tough individual like Luis Ortiz because of this. Although he fights with a hard style, I am convinced that I will prevail on September 4 “Ruiz stated during a press conference.
Ruiz made his professional debut in 2009, earning a chance to face Joshua after Jarrell Miller failed numerous drug tests. Ruiz defeated Joshua in Madison Square Garden to win the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight belts. Ruiz’s triumph was fleeting, though, as he lost the championships to Joshua in a rematch. In May 2021, a thinner Ruiz made a comeback and defeated Chris Arreola.
Ortiz debuted as a professional in 2010. For the WBC heavyweight championship in 2018, Ortiz squared up against Deontay Wilder. Ortiz had early control of the bout but was defeated in the 10th round by TKO. The 43-year-old won three straight fights before rematching with Wilder in 2019 for the championship. He was defeated in the seventh round by knockout. After defeating Charles Martin via TKO in January, Ortiz has since won two straight fights.
