It’s Fight Week in New York City. The UFC is back in town and will be holding its annual event at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The main event features Jon Jones defending his title against Stipe Miocic. Both men are regarded as the best in their respective divisions. An interesting rematch will also be featured in the co-main event.
Jon Jones is regarded as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in the history of the sport. His impressive record in the light-heavyweight division shows that he can fight at a high level. However, his recent inactivity has caused him to become a bit of a controversial figure.
After winning the vacant heavyweight title by defeating Ciryl Gane, Jones gets another chance to fight for the championship. He will be facing off against Miocic, who is one of the best in the division and has won many title fights in the past. Miocic hasn’t fought in the last couple of years.
While Jones was away from the sport, Tom Aspinall was able to earn the interim heavyweight title by fighting for it. He did everything he could to convince the champion to fight him.
Unfortunately, Jones didn’t get the chance to fight for the title against Aspinall. He gave numerous reasons as to why he didn’t want to fight for the championship. One of these is his belief that a win over the former champion would not improve his legacy. He also stated that he doesn’t like Aspinall and wants to take on Derrick Lewis and Alex Pereira.
Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, doesn’t believe in the ducking accusations that have been made about Jones.
